Canada edit
For my first assignment i chose to not jump into cinematography quite yet and instead put together an edit from my week in canada.
plan:
my original plan for my edit was to take action shots of a couple of my teammates skiing to form a sort of "ski movie/edit".

my original plan for my edit was to take action shots of a couple of my teammates skiing to form a sort of "ski movie/edit".
here's a couple of pictures where i used the same scene for videos in my movie:
Taking my shots and video i was trying to focus on short 5-10 second clips. when shooting i really wanted to get still shots to improve video quality but because i did not have a tripod with me i had to set my camera on something still like a rock, table, window ect. this idea worked great for scenery shots but when trying to shoot skiing it became more complicated. shooting action sports like skiing and biking i really learned for myself how hard it is to get what you want out of it. not having a tripod forced me to find a spot that would work for the shot and then use my backcountry pack as my still object to set my camera on. this actually worked well to make the shot still but it was very difficult to angle the camera and follow the skier.
edit process:
to put the edit together i used imovie. i have worked with this app in the past but the version i had to use was a little older so it took me a bit to figure it out. after putting all my clips into a layer to get my music i downloaded my song "solid wall of sound" from the website yout.com. i then put the music into the layer with the clips and was able to start putting clips in order and messing around with the speed and length of them. the song i chose is very repetitive at the beginning and i wanted to crop a section of the music out. this was really difficult to figure out at first because the music was on the same layer as the clips so when i would try to just crop the music the clips would get cut also. after a while of messing with it i figured out a way to cut the music by getting it onto a seperate layer, cutting ware i wanted it cut and then moving the section after i cut up to fot with the video.

Bike shots
plan:
for this project i was shooting up at a devo training camp called top secret. my original plan was to take small video clips to try and work with the cinematography but i ended up not really having enough time to take video and taking pictures was a-lot easier at the location i was at. i ended up taking photos focusing on the action of either someone jumping or then coming around the berm.

edit proces:
for these images i wasn't completely sure how i wanted to edit them, i wanted them to look realistic and not change much to the photo. i first started editing a photo by just changing hue of colors the brights and darks of the images and anding highlights and things like that. i liked how it turned out but i felt like it didn't really look edited and i just wasn't sure about how it looked. i then decided to edit more close up action shots and make them black and white. i felt like the black and white gave my images a kind of old look but also i feel like made the action happening in the photo look more intents.

final:
i ended up choosing this photo for my final because i really liked how the black and white edit to the photo turned out. the contrast of the white on the black i thought made the bicker stand out more as the center of my image and also i felt made the bicker look higher in the air like in real life other then how the camera shot it making it look not as big.
first cinematography
this project was kind of just a practice project. it was my first attempt at cinematography so we didn't really know what we were doing.
plan:
my plane when taking this video was to do pretty much exactly what i ended up doing. it was really windy out and i thought it would be supper cool to use that to my advantage.
edit process:
editing this one wasn't too hard. it was our first attempt with it so we used the directions and had to figure out all the steps. pretty much we just made the video into frames and then put all but the first frame into a group. i then put a mast on the group in white and then colored black everywhere i wanted to stand still. i then matched the first layer to the rest and got my final product.
rock skip edit
for this piece i was still using it as a sort of practice piece and used a another video from my trip to canada.

plan:
i did not really have a set plan in mind when taking this video but i was watching my friends dad skip rocks and got a video of him with a reflection in the water. when going into edit i thought it would be cool and a little more advanced from my first attempt to make the reflection be moving showing the action and having everything els still.
eddit prosses:
when editing PS was giving me a hard time not showing the mask or window i would create. after messing around with it for a bit i figured out i had to create my block in transparent white and then go over in black to create the still aspects. i had some trouble with the area of reflection just because ware the water was moving on the rocks, when i went over with the block it made the rocks look fake and they moved around. i messed with this for a wile making my block come closer in and ended up getting it pretty good. i decided i wanted to show ware the rock hits the water to show more of what is happening in the image so i had to mess around with blending in the transparent window at the spot the rock hits and water ripples. i feel i could have gotten it a little more accurate but im happy for the most part of how it turned out.
first action edit
plan:
for this project my original idea or plan was to take video clips of someone riding and get the shadow in the shot kind of going off my last piece with the water reflection. i ended up not being able to get shadows in the shot because by the time we got to the spot i was planning to shoot, the sun was too low. i then changed my plan to get clips or both riding training a jump to be able to make one still and one in a moving loop.
edit process:
when editing this piece all i had to do was create a window ware i wanted the image to move and everything else black. when doing this i started with my mask with a white transparent and then i went over in black or the block on what i wanted still. this piece was pretty easy because i just had to create a path of ware the bicker would be making sure the shot looked good.
2nd edit
plan:
this project was pretty much the same as assignment 5 other then my angles and shot was a little different. i had the same plan and idea and i wanted to expand my 5th project and create another similar project.
edditig prosses:
i used pretty much the same editing process for this piece.
