Mi Frida es Warren Miller
For this project I chose Warren Miller for my Frida. I wanted to choose someone i had known and was famous to me. Warren miller is famous in the ski industry so ive known of him for a long time. i was able to find out alot about Warren through this project and Wrote all about his life in my spanish biography of him. for the painting portion i chose to paint him with a camera sitting on a ski lift because he is a ski industry film maker and I thought that was a good way to portrait him.
Artist statement:
My artwork for the Frida Kalho project was a portrait of Warren Miller. Warren Miller was a famous filmmaker in the ski industry and made a new hit film every start of the season. For my painting of him I chose to portray the frida painting called frida kahlo portrait with chopped hair. I chose to resemble this for my piece because frida is sitting in a chair with a spacy background. In my painting i had Warren sitting on a ski lift just the same as Frida sat in a chair. I chose a ski lift for the chair because that is one of the objects showing that he was in the ski industry. I also had warren holding a camera, i did this because it shows that he was a filmmaker. In the background i had big mountains with snow on them and a pair of skis. In the Frida portrait there was writing and a line of music notes at the top of the painting. To make my painting look more like the Frida i did the same thing with the top of mine. I wrote a famous quote of his at the top of the painting and then drew out strings of old looking film tape underlining the words.
Questions:
1. I feel that Frida painted so many autobiographical paintings because it was the only way she new how to express herself. She went through such an interesting life and had no other way to show what happened so she used her art work as an outlet to express her creative side.
2. I feel my painting came out ok but i could have done better. I struggled with trying to portray the Frida portrait with my portrait because i didn't know how to tie in skiing. in my final product i feel like i did a good job getting close to the Frida portrait but i could have done better.
3. my painting ended up pretty close to what i was thinking it would turn out to be once i started but i didn't have a clear vision of what i thought it would be i just kind of went along as i did it.
4. I think Fridas art was a way for Frida to express things she couldn't say. A-lot of her art is dark and thats because she had a lot of traumatic things happen in her life and painting was a way to deal with it.
